Web tools for teaching online

This post will be an aggregation of learning tools I have come across.

Adobe Spark

  • What it does: Through three components Spark Post, Spark Video and Spark Page it facilitates the design of visual content

  • When it is useful: When students want to create learning artifacts that are quite visual

  • Interactions it facilitates: Student to student (ask to review each others work; group projects); Student to instructor; student to content

Quizlet

  • What it does: Platform for online quiz taking

  • When it is useful: To help reinforce materials; has a good mobile interface so students will like this portability

  • Interactions it facilitates: Student to content

Remind

  • What it does: Sends students reminder texts

  • When it is useful: To prompt students to remember deadlines o important things, to communicate when class is cancleed or late, to communicate student’s life situations

  • Interactions it facilitates: Student to instructor

Prezi

  • What it does: Takes the place of PowerPoint in allowing students to build presentations. The platform is webbased, which removes the need for fiddling with USB drives and rather than a “slide deck” allows the presenter to create more of a map between ideas

  • When it is useful: When students are presenting their learning; when instructors are presenting content

  • Interactions it facilitates: Student to student (group projects); Student to instructor;
